Step into the heart of Tuscany and experience its timeless beauty on the "Via Francigena: Best of Tuscany" walking tour. Over nine days, this self-guided journey leads travelers along the famed pilgrimage route from San Miniato Alto to Buonconvento, passing through San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, and Siena. Each day’s walk offers a blend of historic hamlets, fortified towers, and rolling vineyards, with achievable daily distances suited for moderately active explorers. Along the way, indulge in regional delicacies like white truffles, Siena’s pici pasta, and saffron from San Gimignano. Evenings are spent in carefully selected hotels and agriturismi, combining authentic hospitality with comfort. The unique selling point: this tour package immerses you in Tuscany’s best food, landscapes, and culture—all along an ancient pilgrimage trail.
A great trip, well worth doing. The first day is relatively hard but after that most days were very manageable of around 4 to 5 hours. In the most part the hotels were very conveniently located. The bag pick up and drop off worked perfectly and were waiting at each of our daily destinations without fail. The scenery was magnificent. Tuscany was great and the small villages that you passed through were picture postcard. Loved it.
We loved our walk through the Tuscan hills and gorgeous old towns. It was great to have our bags ready at each hotel and to not have to worry about where we were going to stay.
Fabulous trip in magnificent Tuscan sun for the entire trek and very few fellow travellers. We felt privileged to be there! Every element of their support for our self-guided walk worked extremely well - thank you!
What beautiful countryside to walk through; signage was easy and the distances appropriate for our 7 days on the Via Francigena
It was a wonderful experience - the organisation, digital maps and amazing accommodation's choices were outstanding. The only downside was that a few of the days particularly the first day were very challenging leaving us exhausted to make the most of the resort accommodation. Late September was a good time of year for walking - not too hot but nice clear days.
The accommodation was very acceptable throughout though in hindsight we would have preferred more Agriturismo venues as the two we got to stay in were exceptional. Two bug bears: (1) the format and content of the 92 pages of walking notes was just impossible - we had thankfully purchased a cicerone guide (2) while the gps tracking on the interactive map worked the option to scale up or scroll didn’t function.
I consider myself a well travelled individual. I have done 4 walking tours in Europe and this was by far the best. From the hotels to the scenery to the weather I was blessed with this trip was #1 I travelled in September and I was amazed at how empty the trails were. I would highly reccomend anyone in moderate/good shape take this trip!
This section of the Via Francigena was stunning! It surpassed all our expectations.
Everything was well planned out. Our hotels were great and the route was easy to follow with the app.
Via Francigena is a visual delight, for serious hikers the undulations of the Tuscan hills provide a daily challenge. The gastronomic experience is one you will not forget.
