Travel Tips
- Whether you’re a golf fan or not, a visit to St Andrews (the home of golf) is never regretted. Public transport to the Fife town can be complicated, so renting a car is the way to go.
- There is a complicated history between Scotland and England. Never refer to a Scottish person as English.
- Learning some Scottish lingo before your visit will be especially helpful if you ever need to ask for directions. A lake is called a loch, aye means yes, and someone calling you a “bonnie lass” thinks you are a beautiful woman.
- You can’t leave Scotland without trying haggis, Irn-Bru, and at least one deep-fried Mars bar.
- Don’t ask a Scotsman what’s underneath his kilt unless you really want to know.
