If you’re looking for some unique nightlife, look no further than the capital of Hungary! Budapest features some awesome ruin bars, best enjoyed as part of a bar crawl. Looking for something a bit more relaxing? Wine lovers can visit nearby Etyek for some excellent food and wine tours, or head to the gorgeous spa town of Hévíz for a weekend of pure bliss.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Hungarian Rhapsody ride from Vienna to Budapest this past August. We loved the self-guided option as it gave maximal flexibility on timing and options for excursions along the way. The bags were always at our hotel prior to our arrival, most hotels were better than expected (though we did pay for the upgrade), and the cycling routes allowed us to explore both touristy areas as well as the countryside "off the beaten path". We enjoyed the option for 1/2 board however would prefer to have more options for dinner (ie dine in the cities when there are ample options). There were a few map/timing glitches but overall we really enjoyed this trip; I would definitely do another.

Great way to explore Eastern Europe

A wonderful holiday visiting four countries and four capital cities. The cities and towns are beautiful and the trip involves a visit to a number of UNESCO World heritage sites. The cycling is varied using country roads, tracks and through forests.

Worth the Ride!

This was our first time on a biking tour with Exodus and we would highly recommend it!! Biking through small historical towns, UNESCO sites, scenic natural beauty, - amazing! Our guide, Jan, and driver, Lubos, took great care of us and Jan’s knowledge of the historical political scene during the Cold War made the tour so much richer. Worth the ride!!

Excellent

Absolutely phenomenal trip. The itinerary, views, experiences, tour guide were incredible! Getting to know others on the tour was also so much fun! I had only solo travelled prior to this, so making friends (for the moment and for long-term) was an unexpected gift!

Excellent

I had a great time with my brother. At 19 I was most often the youngest in the group, but it still had a great vibe, fun people, a great tour guide and most importantly, great activities.

Excellent

Very good experience overall. I was able experience several countries in a limited amount of time. At times, hostels were cramped with 6 person to a room. Transportation was not always reliable. The tour should have included more activities, pre-ordered in advance to ensure a spot ahead of time. Also, some locations felt rushed to get to the next destination on time. This tour should include a hostel to stay in during the final evening in Paris. Our tour guide Ollie was very knowledgeable and professional.

Hungary Tours - Highlights and Travel Trips

Hungary is popular for its spa culture with its massive number of thermal water springs all over the country, easily accessible public baths and renowned grand spas like Gellért Baths in Budapest. The tagline for tourism in Hungary is “A love for life!” which explains the overall vibe of the country with its fine food, wine, diversity of the culture and the natural beauty. For history enthusiasts, this country is a treasure of resources, and they expose their knowledge generously to the tourists in their museums. Popular tourist attractions in the country consist of the wonder that is the Budapest Chain Bridge, The Great Synagogue, Buda Castle, Place of Arts and the Hungarian Parliament Building known for its unique architecture.

Situated in the middle of the continent surrounded by 7 other countries, Hungary is considered to be one of the oldest countries in Europe. It is the birth land of the Rubik’s cube and has produced many mathematicians to the world. Budapest, the capital city is picturesque with the river Danube flowing in the middle allowing 15 bridges to majestically connect the two parts of the city.

  • Soak in the famous Széchenyi thermal baths
  • Explore the fantastical grounds of Bory Castle in Székesfehérvár

Travel Tips

  • You will be immediately identified as a tourist if you pronounce the capital city’s name as “boo-da-pest”. The correct pronunciation is “boo-da-pesht”.
  • Be sure to pack a swimsuit on your trip to Hungary so you can take advantage of the country’s 150+ thermal baths.
  • Even though Hungary is part of the European Union, it uses its own currency: the Hungarian forint. Some shops and tourist destinations will accept your euros, but it’s always best to carry the local currency.
  • Never refuse a shot of Pálinka. The fruit brandy, often homemade, is said to have healing properties and can cure all ails, from headaches to nerves.
  • Don’t clink beer glasses together while in Hungary. It is said that the Austrians celebrated their win of the 1848-49 war of independence by clinking their beer glasses. The Hungarians vowed not to do so for 150 years, and the tradition remains today. It’s fine to ‘cheers’ with other beverages, however.
